I just picked up an Olympus LS-10 PCM Stereo handheld field recorder, last week, and have been using it to record song ideas and band rehearsals.
It works great.
It's capable of recording at 96khz 24 bit resolution.
It has built in stereo condenser mics, and two tiny stereo speakers for instant monitoring.
It's about the size of a larger cell phone, and the body is made of aluminum.
It was a little pricey at $399,but after quite a bit of research,I decided it was worth the extra money to me.
Most of these type of units are at around the $299.00 range.
It's amazingly easy to use,and file transfer is a snap.
Last week I recorded a reference demo with the band. After we were through recording,it took about 10 minutes to download the file and burn three cd's to give to each member.
Check it out if you're in the market.
